Emilie Lauwers

Emilie Lauwers (1984°) studied graphic design at the Hogeschool Sint Lucas (Gent). She works freelance as an illustrator, designer and photographer ever since.
Emilie designed corporate styles for several cliënts in the artistic scene, such as eventcompany Arjan van Dijk Groep (Oosterhout, Netherlands). She makes posters and flyers, programmes and tickets, advertisements, cd leaflets, poscards and invitations. Sometimes, she leaves printed matter behind for a while, to make a projection or edit a small-scale film. Emilie is in-house designer for different companies. She often uses suggestive images combined with modern typography.
Emilie went to artschool from the age of 14. She wrote and illustrated her first book at the age of 16. Since then, she illustrated more then 20 stories from different writers, such as Sabine De Vos, Christina Guirlande, Clara Vanuytven and Inge Misschaert. She uses different materials and styles, depending on the target group. Her work was edited by The House of Books (Antwerpen/Vianen), De Eenhoorn (Wielsebeke) and Die Keure (Brugge). She mostly works on small surfaces, but sometimes she is asked to paint a large mural or a portrait on canvas.
Emilie is in-house photographer for Flanders Operastudio and she made press and promotional photography for several theatre companies and musical ensembles, such as L'acteur et L'écrit (Brussel), Scherzi Musicali (Brussel) and Zeitgeist (Brussel). Often, these photoshoots are part of her own design. She also makes portraits, mostly of artists.
After studying, Emilie was the assistant of scenographer Lionel Lesire (Brussel) for one year. Afterwards she designed sets for Junge Kammeroper in Köln (DE), Flanders Operastudio (Gent) and Dance Studio Minne (Ronse).
